السيرة الذاتية

Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) is performed by gastroenterologists specialized in therapeutic endoscopy techniques who have received comprehensive education and training to acquire the necessary technical skills and experience. One of these doctors is Dr. Shaimaa El Kholy, who has committed to developing her interest in advanced endoscopic techniques.

Dr. Shaimaa El Kholy sought practical training by participating in numerous lectures and workshops in various countries, including England, the Netherlands, Austria, and China. Most recently, she received hands-on training for the first time in China, which enabled her to share and implement this technique in Egypt starting in 2018.

Before that time, patients had to wait for an annual opportunity for treatment through workshops organized by Cairo University and delivered by foreign experts.

Dr. Shaimaa El Kholy is recognized as one of the leading pioneers in endoscopic submucosal dissection for gastrointestinal tumors without surgery in Egypt. Dr. Shaimaa El Kholy successfully introduced this technique in Egypt and the Arab world, as well as in Lebanon, Morocco, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq, where she organized workshops and training courses for interventional gastroenterologists.

Dr. Shaimaa El Kholy was invited to provide hands-on training during a major international conference in San Diego, California, in 2022, based on the recognition of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) for her efforts. Thanks to this invitation, she became the first Arab woman to train physicians in the United States. Dr. Shaimaa El Kholy received congratulations from the Egyptian Medical Syndicate and was the only Arab doctor among the training team, being the sole representative from the Arab world alongside her American and French colleagues.
